Birrot

    From The Fashion Codex

Birrot is a Korean and Danish fashion brand founded in 2018 by Kyeongmin Kim and Seyoung Hong. Based in Copenhagen, Denmark. The brand focuses on womenswear.

    Background

Birrot fuses Korean design heritage with Scandinavian minimalism.[1]

Birrot personally transports their Korean manufactured collections to Denmark via Co2-compensated flights and shipping methods in order to maintain their sustainability values an adhere to Copenhagen Fashion Week standards.[2]

The brand has their atelier in Seoul which is visited once a year by Sey and Min in order to maintain a good relationship with their tailors but also to preserve product development and fabric development within their country.[3]

One of the brand policies allows their clients to have their garments repaired or adjusted by Birrot themselves.[4]

    History

The two owners and creatives, Min and Sey, grew up in Seoul and moved to Copenhagen and eventually founded Birrot in 2018.[5] The word Birrot is translated to “to draw a process to its conclusion” in Korean.[6] . The pair got their fashion education from London College of Fashion and Central Saint Martins.[7]

Birrot was nominated for New Name of the Year at the ELLE Awards in 2024.

    Style

The brands overall aesthetic is a fusion between Scandinavian and Korea minimalism. With monochrome colours and fitted clothing, the brand fits the Scandi-chic style.

    Collections

Birrot's first collection was presented at Revolver Fashion Trade Show during AW19.[8]

The brand debuted its first runway collection in 2024 titled The Highway.[9] The collection featured minimalistic silhouettes and a pared-back colour palette, which allowed for details and details to take the centre of attention, which created a sleek and cohesive monochromatic aesthetic.[10]

Some of the standout pieces in the collection featured a cream-coloured set featuring a buttoned jacket with sewn-on pockets and a long skirt. Another memorable ensemble paired the brand’s recognizable polo with trousers adorned with sewn-on back pockets. A refined gray and black coat with delicate button details stood out as one of the more sophisticated pieces, while layered autumnal looks featuring buttoned shirts added depth to the collection.[11]

One of the collection’s highlights was Birrot’s self-developed fabric, Lay, crafted from multiple layers of crepe. This versatile material was used across a range of designs, from a boxy jacket to a fitted blazer, a tailored dress, and harem-inspired trousers. Its adaptability lent an exclusive touch to every piece.[1]
